I am continuing my way through the Bible. These are my most recent ponderings.
And [Abram] believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness. (Genesis 15:6, ESV)
Abram has just rescued Lot by defeating King Cedorlaomer and his cronies. When the king of Sodom offers him a share of the booty. He refuses, choosing the owe no one but ” the Lord God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth” (v. 23).
For his part, God promises Abram that his descendants will be like the stars in heaven, despite his and Sarai’s advanced years.
I see how Paul came up with his famous definition of faith in Hebrews 11. There was no earthly way that Abram would have any offspring at all, much less innumerable descendants. But in God, nothing is impossible.
Rely on God, then, as Abram did and listen for His voice. What God promises, He will deliver.
